ATLAS quick pressure relief valves provide a control solution for discharging pressure above a set limit in pressurised water lines. The valve opens as pressure rises and diverts water into a suitable discharge line, helping reduce pressure in the main pipeline.

Slow closure as pressure returns to normal helps limit sudden flow changes after discharge. This is particularly useful in rising mains where pumps start and stop. Actual protective performance depends on matching valve capacity and closing settings to the pipeline hydraulic design.

The DN50–DN200 dimensional table supports advance checks of installation space and connection lengths. A suitable branch connection and safe discharge route are planned to meet pressure-control needs. A relief valve alone is not a guarantee that water hammer cannot occur under every operating condition.

ATLAS rapid pressure relief control valves are installed perpendicular to the pipework in pressurised water networks. When the pressure in the pipeline rises to an undesirable level, the valve’s disc opens to release water into the atmosphere, thereby reducing the pressure in the pipeline; once the pressure returns to normal, the valve closes slowly to ensure a complete seal. The slow closing mechanism prevents water hammer effects from occurring in the system. In pumped booster lines, the valve activates when water pressure rises due to pumps cycling on and off, releasing water into the atmosphere to reduce the pressure.
