Choose communication for remote meter reading
The field interface and internet connection should be assessed separately when transferring data from meters to software. M-Bus and LoRaWAN provide different meter/sensor network structures; GSM/4G provides cellular backhaul for a compatible device. These technologies are not directly interchangeable.
M-Bus data collectors
For central reading of meters with wired M-Bus interfaces. Check bus loading, cable layout and polling interval.
LoRaWAN gateway
For forwarding compatible LoRaWAN sensor data to a network server. Verify the regional frequency plan, coverage and network-server compatibility.
GSM/4G communication
For cellular backhaul from the site. Assess operator coverage, SIM/APN, data plan and destination-server settings.
M-Bus converters
For local computer-based reading, review USB/RS232 interfaces and CNV150/CNV250 capacity options.
